Register to Vote

For IBEW Local 71 members and their families, being registered to vote is not just a civic responsibility, is a practical way to protect your livelihood and your community. The work we do and the standards we expect on the job are influenced by decisions made at every level of government. When you are registered to vote, you are prepared to have a say in who makes those decisions and what priorities they pursue.

Voting and political policy are directly connected. Elected officials set policies that shape the economy and the construction market, including infrastructure investment, energy and utility policy, permitting, workforce development and public contracting rules. These decisions can affect whether projects move forward, how work is awarded and whether strong labor standards are required. In other words, policy can influence how much union work is available and how stable that work is over time.

Political decisions also impact the standards that help IBEW members earn a living wage with strong benefits. Laws and regulations can strengthen or weaken workplace protections, jobsite safety enforcement and the ability of working people to bargain collectively. When policies support high labor standards, they help sustain careers that provide fair pay, quality health coverage, retirement security, and dignity on the job.

You are qualified to register to vote in Ohio if you meet all the following requirements:

• A U.S. citizen
• Will be at least 18 years old on or before the day of the General Election
• Will be a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days immediately before the election in which you want to vote
• Are not incarcerated (in jail or in prison) for a felony conviction
• Have not been declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate cour
• Have not been permanently disenfranchised for violations of election laws.

Mail Registration

Once you print and complete the form from the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office, you must sign and send it to your county board of elections.

In order to register to vote in Kentucky, you must:

• Be a U.S. citizen and a Kentucky resident for at least 28 days before the election
• Be at least 18 years old by the next General Election
• Kentucky law allows qualified individuals to register at 17 years of age and be able to participate in a Primary Election if the individual will be 18 years old by the General Election
• Not be a convicted felon (or, if convicted of a felony, my right to vote has been restored following an expungement, Executive Pardon, or Executive Order)
• Not have been judged mentally incompetent in a court of law and have voting rights removed
• Not claim the right to vote outside Kentucky

You have the right to vote in Indiana if:

• You are both a U.S. citizen and a resident of Indiana
• You will be at least 18 years of age on or before the next General or Municipal Election
• You are not currently in prison after being convicted of a crime
• You have lived in the precinct where you vote for at least 30 days prior to the election
• You are registered to vote

In-Person Registration

In-person registration is offered at several locations, including license branches, county election offices and many other places. A valid Indiana driver’s license or state ID is required to vote.

Mail Registration

Print and return the completed form to your county’s voter registration office or the Indiana Election Division.

• Your name as it appears on your West Virginia driver’s license or ID card
• Your date of birth
• Your West Virginia driver’s license or ID card number
• The last four digits of your Social Security Number

You may apply to register to vote or update your information online, in person at your County Clerk’s office or by mail if you meet the following:

• Are a U.S. citizen and a legal resident of West Virginia
• Are at least 17 years of age and will be 18 by the next general election
• Are not currently under conviction, probation or parole for any felony, election bribery, or treason
• Have not been judged incompetent by a court of competent jurisdiction
