The work of IBEW Local 71 does not stop at the jobsite. Decisions made by elected officials and regulatory agencies influence the policies that shape our industry. This includes how projects are funded, how work is awarded, what safety standards are enforced and whether working people have a fair chance to earn a living wage with strong benefits.

Political advocacy is how we help protect the standards our members have earned and the opportunities our families depend on. When we stay informed and engaged, we strengthen our ability to support responsible contractors, promote high-quality training and defend jobsite safety and fairness.

For IBEW Local 71 members and their families, being registered to vote is not just a civic responsibility; it is a practical way to protect your livelihood and your community. The work we do and the standards we expect on the job are influenced by decisions made at every level of government. When you are registered to vote, you are prepared to have a say in who makes those decisions and what priorities they pursue.

Affiliated Construction Trades (ACT) Ohio advocates for quality, safe construction by contractors and skilled union tradesmen and tradeswomen in the Buckeye State. They fight for level competition to ensure the state’s tax dollars are spent properly. ACT Ohio also strives to educate the public on the importance of fair wages, workforce training, industry regulations, responsible contracting and safety standards.

Each rating reflects how often each elected official voted in accordance with an AFL-CIO vote recommendation on a Housewide or Senatewide matter.

The IBEW Government Affairs Department is committed to advancing the IBEW’s mission and improving the lives of all members through supporting education, advocacy, mobilization, public policy, and legal and administrative action. The political education and legislative activism of IBEW is developed and administered by the Government Affairs Department at the IBEW International Office.

The term “Right to Work” was promoted by anti-worker, anti-union interests to put a positive label on a policy that weakens working people. The name sounds like it protects opportunity, but the real impact is to reduce the ability of workers to stand together for fair wages, strong benefits and safe jobsites.
