You cannot deliver top-quality work without being taught by top-quality instructors, using modern equipment and learning the methods that today’s jobs demand.

Quality training is one of the clearest differences between union and non-union work. Through our apprenticeship and continuing education pathways, ALBAT helps ensure Local 71 members are prepared for real-world conditions, evolving technology and the safety requirements that protect everyone on the jobsite.

Their training model is designed to produce skilled, productive workers who can contribute from day one and continue growing throughout their careers.

Registered Apprenticeship Programs

The foundation of quality training is our Registered Apprenticeship Programs. The Registered Apprenticeship “Earn While You Learn” model combines structured classroom instruction with paid on-the-job training under the supervision of experienced journeymen. For apprentices, this means:
  • A debt-free education while building a career in the electrical industry
  • A blend of hands-on field training and classroom learning (including math, theory, and code-related fundamentals)
  • Industry-recognized safety training and certifications that help apprentices work safely and confidently
  • A clear path of progression as skills and responsibilities increase over time
Depending on the program, an apprenticeship typically lasts four years. During that time, apprentices earn wages while they learn and begin building the foundation for long-term stability — work opportunities, benefits eligibility, and retirement planning.

Journeyman Upgrade Training

Becoming a journeyman does not mean the end of training; it is the start of the next phase. The electrical industry is constantly changing, and the best workers stay current. Journeyman upgrade training helps Local 71 members:
